PNB Starts Public Awareness Campaign in Southern Parts of India

Usha Ananthasubramanian, Managing Director & CEO, Punjab National Bank, flagged off the “PNB Jan Chetna Abhiyan” (PNB Public Awareness Campaign) from Pillayarpatti for spreading immense awareness among the masses in Southern Parts of the country. This is the 2nd such Flag off after the one done on the Republic Day 2016 in Northern Part of the country.  The objective of this road show is to reach out to at least 10 lakh people through use of audio visual aids, Street Plays, Puppet Shows, folk songs, etc., in local dialect.

The Bank is organizing 948 camps across 12 States using a team of 107 Financial Literacy Counsellors and 63 Chief Lead District Managers for spreading financial literacy to a large section of the society.

During Camps, the information will be disseminated on:

  • Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana,
  • Atal Pension Yojana,
  • Mudra Loans,
  • Pradhan Mantri Jeewan Jyoti Yojana
  • Pradhan Mantri Jan Suraksha Yojana,
  • Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,

Besides, the focus of awareness will be on the topics like, crop insurance, financial planning and budgeting, basics of savings and credit, social security schemes of insurance, remittances, role of business correspondents, use of Micro ATMs, production planning and risk management, etc.

During the function, more than 100 beneficiaries were provided loan sanctions to the tune of Rs.10.00 crore under Mudra Scheme. Besides, 50 women who have been trained by the FTCs were provided Sewing Machines, Door Mat Machine, Computer Peripherals and MUDRA Cards.

Smt. Usha Ananthasubramanian informed that ten ‘Farmers Training Centres’ of the Bank located in the States of Haryana, MP, Rajasthan, Punjab, U.P., Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and West Bengal have imparted training to nine lakh farmers and youth including 1.62 lakh women. These FTCs are also linking the masses with the banks through their several Schemes and CSR Initiatives like providing free of cost training through Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs), FTCs and various socio-development schemes for providing financial assistance to the School Girls, Boys and differently abled persons.  Similarly, the Financial Literacy Centres have handled 1 lakh queries and have conducted about two lakh awareness camps/seminars on financial literacy, preventive couselling, customer rights, etc.

She also stated that for holistic development of the farmers and rural people, the FTCs under the aegis of PNB will focus on women employment through skill development, improving soil fertility through soil testing, popularizing crop insurance, annual health check-ups, promoting renewable sources of energy and social welfare activities in their command area apart from boosting credit linkage of the candidates trained by FTCs & RSETIs.

The Bank wishes to have Farmers’ Training Centres in all the States of the country in a phased manner. Shortly, the Bank shall be opening Farmers’ Training Centres in the States of Karnataka, Gujarat, H.P., A.P., Maharashtra and J&K.
