Over the past ten years, India has added a new airport every forty days: Minister of Civil Aviation

In the past decade, India has remarkably introduced 88 new airports, averaging one new airport every 40 days, along with an increase of 60 additional flights every hour, as highlighted by Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu.

The Minister emphasized that air travel in India has become increasingly accessible, available, and affordable for all.

“Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, our skies have transformed into more connected, competitive, and collaborative spaces,” Naidu stated, reinforcing the ministry’s commitment to developing state-specific strategies that promote inclusive growth in aviation.

His comments were made during the ‘Northern Region Ministers’ Conference on Civil Aviation 2025’ in Dehradun, organized by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Naidu explained that the initiative aims to capitalize on regional opportunities and unlock the potential of Tier 2 and 3 cities. “By examining the figures, it’s evident just how vast these opportunities are,” he noted.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized the crucial role aviation plays in improving regional connectivity, boosting tourism, and advancing socio-economic development within the state. He praised the aviation sector’s impressive growth while underscoring the importance of safety in aviation operations, particularly in the challenging hilly terrain, a commitment shared by both the state government and the Ministry.

The event featured several presentations from the Ministry on the opportunities available to states within the aviation sector.

During a comprehensive plenary session, Naidu laid out the Ministry’s strategic priorities for the region, which include developing heliport infrastructure, expanding UDAN routes, enhancing Flying Training Organizations and MRO hubs, and fostering collaboration among the Centre, states, and industry stakeholders.

The Minister also discussed the key outcomes from individual meetings held between the Ministry and state delegations, as well as discussions among state governments and aviation industry leaders, assuring comprehensive support from the Central Government to advance the aviation sector.
