NLCI Plans a Capacity Addition of 2640 Megawatt at Neyveli – CMD, NLCI

The 68th Republic Day of the Nation was celebrated at NLCI with great fervour and enthusiasm.  His Holiness Sri Sri  Ravishankar  ,Founder Art of Living  Foundation, as  Guest of Honour graced the occasion.  Earlier, Dr. Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLCIL garlanded the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Township Administration Office premises and inaugurated the day long celebrations. Later, he hoisted the tricolour flag at the Bharathi Stadium. He inspected the ceremonial parade and accepted the Guard of Honour presented by the Rifle, Commando and Fire Service units of Central Industrial Security Force, NLCI’s Security Force, Fire Services, Home Guards, NCC volunteers and students from Neyveli schools and college.

In his Republic Day address, Dr. Sarat Kumar Acharya extended his greetings to the NLCI family and welcomed the guests. He recalled the day, 26th January 1950, when India adopted the Constitution of India and became Sovereign, Secular, Democratic Republic assuring its citizens justice, equality and liberty. He saluted the great freedom fighters and personalities who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country and become a Sovereign republic.

He said that contracts for power generation capacity addition of 1980 MW Coal based Thermal through NUPPL, JV at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and 500 MW Green Field Project in Rajasthan.  With the allotting of 20.5 MTPA Talabira Mine Blocks in Orissa.  NLCI has planned a capacity addition of 4000 MW in Coal Based Power Generation.  It has also proposed for a capacity addition of 1320 MW (2×660 MW) Lignite based power generation in Neyveli which is in advance stage.  Further it has also planned to add 1320 MW (2×660 MW) in the second phase.

With construction work for 130 MW solar power generating facility at Neyveli, NLCI is in the process of putting up solar installations of about 500 MW in Tamilnadu and 250 MW in Odisa and 1000 MW each in Uttar Pradesh, Mathya Pradesh and Maharashtra. NLCI also planned to add 200 MW wind power in the state of Tamilnadu.

Dr. Acharya wanted everyone to be innovative in al spheres of activities and to think of new ways to manage cost, improve quality and increase efficiency in production.  He pointed out that NLCI has organized seminars of excellence in each domain of its business.

He announced that the Post Retirement Medical Assistance for the retired employees is being enhanced Rs.17,000 per annum.  In addition to the insurance coverage provided for the hospitalization.  NLCI also has planned to establish a retiring home in Neyveli Township for the retired employees.

The senior most employee of NLCI Shri D.Pattusamy, Technician Gr.I of Mine-I along with his spouse Smt.P. Laitha were honoured by Smt. & Dr. S.K.Acharya and a tricycle was presented to Shri Gnanvel, a differently abled person.

His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, in his address to the gathering, complimented NLCI for utilizing the natural resources such as Solar, Wind, Fossil, for producing power which is very much essential for the society and appreciated for adopting Green Initiatives.  He mentioned that  to excel in life both physical strength and inner strength should be maintained  and also for carrying out any activity effectively. Yoga and Meditation are much helpful for maintaining the inner strength and physical exercises, games and sports help in maintaining physical health. He gave away “Swachh Bharath Award” to various units of NLCIL for maintaining cleanliness and “Seva” award to various organizations working in Neyveli,  for the empowerment of poor with service orientation.

Shri.Rakesh Kumar, Director (Finance), Shri Subir Das, Director (Mines) Shri V.Thangapandian, Director (Power), Shri P.Selvakumar, Director (Planning & Projects),Shri R. Vikraman, Director(Human Resource) participated in the function. The long service awards, loyal service awards and special awards were also presented to the employees by CMD. Special Awards were also presented by functional directors to students who excelled in sports.

Earlier Shri R.Vikraman, Director (Human Resource) welcomed the gathering. NLCIL’s senior officials, executives, supervisors, employees, workers representatives of Unions and Associations and the residents of Neyveli were present in Bharathi Stadium to witness the celebrations. Colourful cultural programme presented by about 4100 school children were appreciated by one and all. Shri Acharya announced a cash award of Rs.12.00 lakhs to the students who participated in the cultural programmes.

To mark this occasion, the Members of the Neyveli Ladies Club distributed fruits to the       in-patients of the NLC General Hospital and wished them for a speedy recovery.  The highlight of the evening function was the distribution of certificates to the students of the Neyveli Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha at Lignite Hall, Block-11, Neyveli.
