New initiatives in vigilance mark the inauguration of Vigilance Awareness Week-2014 celebrations at NLC

Neyveli Oct 28  “Ethical awareness, a Character education for children” for inculcating discipline in children and “Online Vigilance Clearance” for NLC employees were inaugurated on 27/10/2014, by NLC Management during the inauguration of Vigilance awareness week celebrations -2014, at the Lignite hall, Neyveli Township. This is in-line with this year’s theme of the week long celebrations “Combating Corruption- Technology as an Enabler”.

In commemoration with the Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel, former Deputy Prime Minister of India, Vigilance Awareness Week is celebrated throughout India. All the Government and Public Sector organizations celebrate Vigilance Awareness Week to bring about awareness on Vigilance among the employees and the public. This year, in NLC Vigilance Awareness Week celebrations (from 27/10/2014 to 01/11/2014) commenced on 27-10-2014, at Lignite Hall, Block-11, Neyveli. The theme for this year is “Combating Corruption- Technology as an Enlabler”.

Major General Shri.R.G.Krishnan, Chief of Staff, Army Headquarters , Chennai (Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala rea) graced the occasion as Chief Guest and,Shri.B.Surender Mohan, CMD NLC presided over the function.

In his presidential address, Shri B. Surender Mohan said that the Vigilance Department at NLC is aiming at the system improvements to bring about more transparency in all its activities. He mentioned that NLC has moved much forward in accountability and bringing transparency by utilising technology in all its activities by bringing out Purchase Manual, Contract Manual, Disposal Manual, Personnel Manual, Vigilance Guidelines – CVC Circulars for providing guidelines to the employees. The Online Material Management System (OLIMMS), e-tendering and Reverse Auction Procedures are effectively used in purchase and control over materials by NLC. The payment to the suppliers/contractors are made only through e-payment. Further, vendor payment details in NLC’s website, online submission of application for recruitment have also been added to the list. He suggested that all the decisions taken should be made transparent. Transparency will give more confidence and plug the loopholes of corruption he added. Now technology like CC TV and surveillance playing major role in bringing transparency and integrity of the nation ,he added.
In his Chief Guest address, Major General Shri R.G. Krishnan lauded the efforts taken by NLC in building up the nation by its “proven values and powerful vision”. He said that vigilance starts at home, initially for the purpose of safety of our belongings and life. It is our basic life support. It is our responsibility to ensure safe and transparent environment in our work areas. He said that corruption is one of the major violations of human rights. One should feel responsible individually to combat corruption and act accordingly in right time, which shows significant change in global level.

In the celebrations, Shri Sarath Kumar Acharya, Director (HR), Shri Rakesh Kumar, Director (Finance), Shri S. Rajagopal Director, (Power), Shri S. Boopathy, Director (Planning & Projects) Shri Subir Das, Director (Mines)and Shri Shivaraj Singh, IFS, Chief Vigilance Officer felicitated. Shri B.Surender Mohan, CMD NLC administered pledge on Vigilance to the participants in English, Shri.S.K. Acharya, Director( HR), in Hindi and Shri.S.Rajagopal ,Director(Power) in Tamil. “A hand book to the ethical awareness programme educators” was released by the Chief Guest, Shri.R.G.Krishnan and the first copy was received by Shri. B.Surender mohan, CMD,NLC. The ‘On line Vigilance clearance system was inaugurated by Shri. B.Surender Mohan, CMD,NLC.

In the function, messages about the Vigilance Awareness Week-2014 celebrations from the Hon’ble President of India, the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, and Chief Vigilance Commissioner were read by the Functional Directors. Earlier, Shri.M. Chandrasekaran, Deputy Chief Vigilance Officer welcomed the gathering and Shri S.Sundaresan, HOHR/Vigilance proposed the vote of thanks.
