Metro project in Ahmedabad cleared


New Delhi, Oct 20  The central government cleared a 35.96 km metro rail project in Ahmedabad.

The first phase would connect the APMC to Motera Stadium and Thaltej Gam to Vastral Gam.

The total project of the cost would Rs.10,773 crore, of which Rs. 1,990 crore borne by the central government, said a statement.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The proposed two alignments are expected to provide much needed connectivity to the commuters and would traverse through some of the densest and traffic congested areas of Ahmedabad,” the statement said.

“It will considerably reduce traffic congestion and will bring in fast, comfortable, safe, pollution-free and affordable mass transportation system for the people of Ahmedabad,” it added.
