Fardiabad, Sep 04 Bhupender Gupta assumed the position of Chairman & Managing Director of NHPC Limited, a ‘Navratna’ enterprise under the aegis of Ministry of Power..

Prior to this appointment, he served as Director (Technical) at THDC India Limited and currently holds the additional charge of Chairman & Managing Director at SJVN Limited.

Gupta possesses a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and an MBA in Operations Management. His career began with ACC Ltd. in 1991, followed by a 12-year tenure at SJVN, where he was integral to the planning, erection, commissioning, and O&M of electromechanical equipment for the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Plant, India’s largest operational hydroelectric project.

He also spent approximately three years (2002–2005) on deputation with the 1020 MW Tala Hydroelectric Power Project in Bhutan. Subsequently, Gupta joined REC Ltd. in March 2007, focusing on project financing for hydro and thermal projects for about six years.

He then served as Additional Chief Executive Officer in two REC subsidiaries, REC Transmission Projects Co. Ltd. and REC Power Distribution Co. Ltd., managing project execution, contract management, and consultancy for power sector projects, including the successful completion of government schemes like Saubhagya and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY). In December 2020, he joined the Punatsangchhu Hydroelectric Project Authority in Bhutan as Director (Technical), addressing construction and contractual issues.

His most recent role before NHPC was as Director (Technical) at THDCIL, starting June 9, 2023, where he played a key role in the commissioning of Khurja STPP Unit-1 and resolving technical challenges for Tehri PSP Units 1 & 2.

With over 34 years of experience, including 31 years in Power CPSUs, Gupta has made significant contributions across hydro, thermal, #renewableenergy, transmission, and distribution domains.

His future vision emphasizes meeting India’s growing power demand through non-fossil fuel resources, enhancing #energysecurity, and achieving #sustainableenergy targets by integrating advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, EV integration, cybersecurity, green hydrogen, bioenergy, and energy storage. Outside his professional life, Gupta is an avid sports enthusiast, actively participating in badminton and table tennis.
