New Delhi, August 05 India’s textile and apparel exports to Japan for 2024 are valued at $354 million, while Japan’s total imports in this sector amount to $30.87 billion. The India-Japan CEPA, signed in 2011, aims to lower tariffs and enhance competitiveness for Indian exporters.
Recently, a high-level delegation visited Japan to engage with major Japanese firms in the textile sector, encouraging them to invest in #PMMITRA parks and take advantage of India’s textile ecosystem.
The Indian government is promoting the sector through various initiatives, including the PM MITRA Parks Scheme for modern textile infrastructure and the PLI Scheme aimed at boosting manufacturing.
Additionally, the Ministry of Textiles has formed an ESG Taskforce to promote sustainable practices in the industry. Training programs on Japanese quality evaluation systems are also being conducted for Indian textile officials in collaboration with AOTS, Japan. This information was shared by Minister of State for Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, in a Lok Sabha today.
