IGL ORGANISES SAKSHAM CYCLOTHONS IN NOIDA AND GHAZIABAD

New Delhi, December 31, 2017: With an objective to promote fuel conservation and pollution free environment in the city, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the largest CNG distribution company in the country, today organized cyclothons in Noida and Ghaziabad today morning. Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences and Environment, Forest and Climate Change led the six km long cycle rally in Noida to promote the habit of cycling, which was flagged off by Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture and Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Over 500 cycling enthusiasts were part of the rally which also included Mr. V. Nagarajan, Director (Commercial), IGL, senior officials and school children among others. The rally started in the morning from Noida Stadium, Sector 21, towards Kamal Marg via Tulsi Marg Road and back to the stadium where it ended. 

Applauding this unique campaign to promote the cause of pollution free environment by encouraging the habit of cycling, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that such initiatives on part will help in creating a pollution free environment for our future generations. He highlighted the proactive role being played by the government to improve the lives of the citizens through such initiatives. Being a trained medical doctor, he explained the advantages of having physical activities like cycling to maintain good health. Dr. Harsh Vardhan also called upon organisations to develop schemes to incentivize those coming to offices on cycles. He also administered a pledge to all participants for fuel conservation for creating a so as to build a new & healthy India for our future generations by ensuring a better environment. 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mahesh Sharma, who also happens to be the elected Lok Sabha member from Distt. Gautam Budh Nagar, appreciated IGL for organizing cyclothon in Noida aimed at aimed at promoting the usage of cycles in Noida for good health, pollution free environment and fuel conservation in Noida. He highlighted the need to organize such events to sensitise the younger generation about need to care for the environment. Earlier, Mr. V. Nagarajan welcomed the participants and thanked them for being a part of the initiative aimed at creating a pollution free environment. 

Nearly 500 cycling enthusiasts also participated in Saksham Cyclothon in Ghaziabad, which started from Vaishali CNG station in the morning. The six km long rally moved towards Gurudwara Marg via Maharaja Agarsain Marg and back to the start point where it ended. Shri Shesh Narayan Singh, SP (Traffic), Ghaziabad and Shri P.K. Dubey, City Magistrate flagged off the cycle rally after administering Saksham pledge to the participants to save fuel. 

Prime Minister had appealed to all the citizens through his Mann ki Baat aired on 26th March 2017, not to use Petrol or Diesel run vehicles one day in a week. Taking this forward, with an objective to promote fuel conservation and pollution free environment, a series of Cycle Rallies are being organized across 76 cities across India by various fuel retail companies under the aegis of Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA). As a part of this campaign, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the largest CNG distribution company in the country, had been entrusted the responsibility of organizing this drive in Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad.
