B. Surender Mohan, CMD, NLC laid the foundation stone and unveiled a plaque for construction of 4 additional Class rooms for NMJ Matriculation School at Block-12, Neyveli on 29-10-2014 , at an estimated cost of Rs 30.00 Lakhs, under Corporate Social Responsibility Scheme in the presence of Sarat Kumar Acharya ,Director (HR) and N. Muthu CGM (HR).
In his address, B. Surender Mohan, said that education is the prime objective in NLC’s CSR activities, and NLC always extends its full support for the same. He directed CSR authorities to take necessary steps to construct these additional class rooms before April 2015, to facilitate for next academic year. CMD, NLC stressed that CSR activities should be time bound and that then only it could fulfil its purpose, he added.
The 57 year old organization is regularly carrying out various community development works even before the Government started to insist upon CSR policy like Water supply for irrigation, laying roads, constructing culverts, school buildings, meeting halls, community halls, buildings for library, Anganwadi, primary health centres are some of the community development projects. It also supplies drinking water to the nearby villages by sinking bore wells and constructing overhead tanks.
Appreciating NLC’s service to the society, the Central Government, State Government and leading NGOs have honoured NLC with prestigious CSR awards. NLC proposes to spend significant share in promoting education as its CSR prime object i.e Rs.10.02 Crore which includes (General education for Youth, Special education and providing opportunities for Special children, Technical education (ITI, Mining , Diploma ), infrastructure, and scholarships for Wards of SC,ST ,OBC employees) which is 24.2 % against 41.42 Crore CSR fund proposed for the year 2014-15.
Also NLC has taken up construction of 40 toilet blocks in various schools in the peripheral villages of NLC Projects, at an estimated cost of Rs.1.43 Crores under Clean India Movement, Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan as envisaged by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
