China, India capable of handling border issue: Xi

New Delhi, Sep 18 Visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping Thursday said both India and China are capable of effectively managing the border situation.

“Both sides are capable of effectively managing the border situation and to settle the border disputes at the earliest,” Xi said after official talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi here.

Saying that China-India boundary is a question left over from history, he said: “The two sides agree to respect each other’s concern.”

Xi said while there could be some incidents, both sides were capable of handling it in such a way that it did not have any impact on bilateral relations.

The two countries, the Chinese president said, would “settle the boundary question at an early date”.

Xi also invited Modi to visit China. “I invite Modi to visit China at an early date next year.”

He said that the leadership of the two countries should meet regularly, and called for “closer development partnership”.

Xi also said the leadership of the two countries should meet regularly and provide “strategic direction”.

“China, India are two important forces in increasingly multi-polar world. When we speak together, the whole world will listen,” he said.
