New Delhi, Aug 08 The Union Cabinet has approved four new components under the existing Central Sector Scheme of Special Development Packages for Assam and Tripura, amounting to a total of Rs 4,250 crore. The allocation includes Rs 500 crore for infrastructure development in Adivasi-inhabited areas of Assam, benefiting the Adivasi and Dimasa communities.
An additional Rs 500 crore has been designated for the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, and Rs 3,000 crore will support infrastructure initiatives linked to the ULFA groups in Assam. Furthermore, Rs 250 crore is allocated for the development of tribal communities in Tripura.
The overall plan projects an expenditure of Rs 7,250 crore, with the remaining amount to be contributed by the Assam government. The initiative aims to enhance the socio-economic conditions of marginalized groups, create employment opportunities, and improve health services and education, while also fostering tourism in the region.
