Cupertino (California), June 9: Apple on Sunday unveiled its next generation of Apple Intelligence and introduced Siri AI, an overhauled version of its voice assistant that the company says is more intelligent, knowledgeable and capable, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 26).

The upgrades span iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 and tvOS 27, bringing performance refinements, design polish and new tools aimed at making Apple devices more responsive and easier to use. Apple said the platform-wide advances are underpinned by a bold new architecture designed to protect user privacy.

“Apple products are an essential part of people’s lives, and this year we’re bringing powerful new capabilities to empower our users in even more ways,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “We’re delivering the next generation of Apple Intelligence across our platforms; introducing Siri AI, a profoundly more intelligent, knowledgeable, and capable Siri; expanding child safety features with intuitive new tools for families; and making our software platforms faster, more reliable, and more delightful than ever before.”

Siri AI is central to the update. It can interpret what’s on a user’s screen, use personal context to search across apps, and draw on the web for up-to-date information to produce relevant answers. The assistant is also designed to work more fluidly across the system, helping with everyday tasks while maintaining privacy safeguards.

Beyond Siri, Apple Intelligence quietly fuels new features in apps across the ecosystem. Users will see smarter image editing in Photos, streamlined browsing across multiple tabs in Safari, fresh creative options with Image Playground, and communication enhancements in Messages and Mail. The intent, Apple said, is to cut friction in common workflows while opening up more expressive, personalised experiences.

Parents get a notable expansion of child safety tools. “Powerful and intuitive new features that are easy to use help parents manage what their kids can see, who they can talk to, and when they have access to apps,” the company noted. By setting up a child account, families can enable age-appropriate protections across the system. With Setup Assistant, parents choose which apps are available from the start and retain control over what gets added later. Communication safety tools can require approval for each new contact and trigger automatic interventions if explicit or violent content is being shared.

On Apple Watch, watchOS 27 introduces a dynamic app grid that highlights five Siri‑suggested apps for quick access. Users can open a widget in the Smart Stack with a new tap gesture, and a consolidated Find My app now brings together Find Devices, Find Items and Find People.

The new features are available for testing from today via the Apple Developer Programme (developer.apple.com). A public beta is slated for release next month through the Apple Beta Software Programme.

With privacy-focused underpinnings, broader parental controls and system-wide intelligence upgrades, Apple’s WWDC 26 announcements aim to deliver more contextual smarts while keeping day-to-day experiences familiar across the company’s platforms.
