New Delhi, May 21 : Under its policy of Corporate Social Responsibility, Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd, a Navaratna PSU with Govt of India, Ministry of Power felicitated Indian Men’s National Hockey team at a ceremony organized in Pune on 19th May 2012.
The felicitation was in the context of Indian hockey team having won Asian Championship trophy 2011 and further for having qualified to participate in the ensuing Olympics to be held in London, U.K.
At a function organized at Pune on 19th May 2012, Chairman and Managing Director of REC Rajeev Sharma presented gift cheques of Rs. 1.5 lakh each to the members of Indian hockey team winning Asian championship trophy and another cheque for Rs. 1 lakh to each one of them for having qualified in London Olympics.
In his address on the occasion, he outlined briefly the corporate social responsibility policy of REC which among other things also aims at promoting talents in sports. It was with reference to REC’s this CSR policy that this felicitation function was organized. Speaking on the occasion, he said that, Hockey being our national game has a glorious past and a national priority. He also extended his best wishes to Indian hockey team for their success in the ensuing Olympics.
Earlier, Executive Director – CSR, REC, Vinod Behari welcomed the members of Indian hockey team and other dignitaries such as those from Sports Authority of India, Hockey India, Maharashtra Hockey association and others present on the occasion and expressed gratitude to them for having enabled REC to organize this function.
He also briefly explained priorities under REC’s CSR Policy and the current initiatives undertaken in the area of skill development and employment opportunities creation, education and adult literacy, provision of clean energy for rural areas etc., apart from promotion of talent in sports.
Officers from Sports Authority of India, Maharashtra Hockey association, Hockey India, coach of Indian team etc., also addressed the gathering on this occasion
The function closed with vote of thanks proposed by M.K.Mittal, Zonal Manager, REC Mumbai, followed by a cultural programme featuring local artists organized on the occasion.
