Maruti to set up world class driving schools in 15 cities

Car market leader Maruti Udyog Limited today announced that it will set up world-class Maruti Driving Schools across 15cities in India, this year.

These Maruti Driving Schools (MDS) are modelled on international lines, where learners will be imparted classroom training, practical training and training in attitude and road behaviour, as per international practice.

The initiative is part of Maruti's commitment to road safety and endeavour to inculcate safe driving habits among people. This initiative will be a self-sustaining activity for the company. Making additional profits is not the objective of this initiative. 

The new Maruti Driving Schools will be equipped with world-class simulators, to enable learners to familiarise themselves with the controls of the car before they take the actual vehicle on the road. These will also simulatevarious road and weather conditions like fog, dim light, uphill and downhill terrain, to provide comprehensive training to learners. 

Specially trained and groomed instructors, both male and female, will impart training in a hi-tech, air-conditioned environment at Maruti Driving Schools, using premium Maruti air-conditioned cars. 

Each driving instructor is intensively trained for a fortnight at Institute of Driving Training & Research (IDTR), Delhi.

While there will be a standard learning package for beginners, Maruti Driving Schools will also offer the flexibility of additional learning modules so that learners can design a curriculum of their choice. 

Early this year, Maruti had Set up three pilot Maruti Driving Schools - one each in Bangalore, Kollam and Chandigarh. Learnings from the experience of these pilot schools will be incorporated in new driving schools being set up.

The pilot driving schools received good response. Over 1000 people have already enrolled in these schools. Female learners account for more that 55 per cent of total learners. People with varied profile like doctors, professional and many elderly people are taking driving lessons in conducive environment offered by theses schools. 

The Maruti Driving Schools are being set up in partnership with Maruti dealerships, which will operate and manage the Schools.
