INDIAN RAILWAYS CARRY 262.95 MILLION TONNES OF FREIGHT DURING APRIL-AUGUST 2005

New Delhi, September 12, 2005

Indian Railways have carried 262.95 million tonnes of revenue earning freight during the first five months of the current financial year, which is 5.66 million tonnes more than the target. The freight carried shows an increase of 25.84 million tonnes over the freight of 237.11 million tonnes actually carried during the corresponding period last year. The target for April-August 2005 was 257.29 million tonnes.

During the month of August 2005, the revenue earning freight carried by Indian Railways was 51.60 million tonnes. There is an increase of 5.41 million tonnes over the actual freight of 46.19 million tonnes carried by the Indian Railways during August`, 2004.
