Brunei-India Think Tourism & Trade Need
Joint Synergy
New Delhi, October 11, 2006
FICCI as we all know is the apex chamber of the country, started during the
period of Mahatma Gandhi, in 1927 just before independence. Since then it has
been at the forefront, to take Indian Business and Entrepreneurs abroad to
facilitate trade simultaneously bringing international community to India to
exchange their business with us.
With the same aim resting in its mind, FICCI today organized a meeting with
an upcoming, unexplored and an extremely fast growing country of Brunei . A
presentation in the honor of HE Mr. Lim Jock Seng, Hon'ble Minister for Foreign
Affairs & Trade II, Brunei was the agenda of the meeting.
A welcome address at the Round table meeting by Mr.Subhash Goyal, Chairman,
Stic travels, set the ball rolling. Giving priority to forging bilateral
relations between the two countries, he was all gush and praise about Brunei,
specially its peaceful and beautiful sites, which he cited could be a hub for
future trade among all countries of the world.
The meeting discussed various opportunities and avenues available in India as
well as in Brunei to expand investment opportunities in areas of Technology,
Tourism, Medical facilities, energy security, IT and above all Oil & Natural Gas
which has a strong base in Brunei.
In his speech, HE Mr. Lim Jock Seng, Hon'ble Minister for Foreign Affairs &
Trade II, Brunei said, "Brunei being a small country of 50,000 people can
benefit a lot from cooperation with India as India has massive population which
is very talented and competent." He applauded the efforts of Teachers and
Engineering working in Brunei saying that we share a lot in common, like
culture, trade, and even some scripts like Sanskrit.
Bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two countries becomes
all the more important as Brunei is located in the heart of ASEAN countries
which increases its accessibility to ASEAN markets to a great extent.
Other than highlighting areas which could be exploited collectively, the
FICCI Chamber also expressed concern over the problems faced by people seeking a
Visa to visit Brunei. The Brunei delegation ensured its help in the matter by
trying to make the procedure more relaxed and accessible for the common man.
The major thrust being laid out on Tourism, both parties felt it was an
important sector for joint synergy. Besides which, health, adventure and
eco-tourism are the other areas for joint collaboration where a sufficient
amount of untapped potential exists and can be utilized in sectors like
Railways, Biotechnology, Infrastructure, Mining etc.
