Tourism contributes US $ 120 mn to Kazakh Economy

New Delhi, October 28, 2006

Greatness of mountain peaks, fabulous glow of glacier, mild shadow and exceptional aroma of pine forests, everlasting enigma of the desert, mind-blowing canyons and emerald surface of the high-mountain lakes are what tourist look for and what they would find easily in Kazakhstan.

On the eve of the Republic Day of Kazakhstan on 23 rd October, 2006, India witnessed the showcase of the maiden fair on Kazakhstan’s tourism aimed at improving relations, imparting information and gaining competence in dealing with customers thereby winning their confidence.

This event was a door opener to Kazakhstan as well as India. In fact tourism in the country is flourishing now, every year millions of tourists from around the world spend their holidays in Kazakhstan. The trade turnover has been increasing steadily for the last three years soaring to USD 120 million, 24 % higher than the previous year. All these years there has been a significant growth in the bilateral trade and, as a consequence, an increase in business tourism too. This has enhanced people-to-people contacts in the country.

“Developing tourism today is one of the priorities of Kazakhstan on its way towards accomplishing an ambitious goal to enter the ranks of 50 most competitive nations in the world “said H.E. Dr. Kairat Umarov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to India on the occasion.

It is a stable country with a thriving political system, vibrant civil society, dynamic economy and blossoming democracy. Many experts call Kazakhstan an “Anchor of Stability in Central Asia”. Most of tourists call it “Paradise of Central Asia”. Now with growing consciousness in trade and tourism this is the best time to bring the tourists of both countries under one umbrella to foment efforts in the direction of economy and prosperity.
