France seeks cooperation with India on Education & Technology building

New Delhi, October 24, 2006

Technology is not only advancing day by day but also crossing boundaries. Growing Globalization has made exchange of technology not only simple but also pervasive. One such example is Ecole Polytechnique.

Currently in India to promote its campaign of devising new means of collaboration between India and France and for knowing each other better, this Institute of Higher Education wishes to facilitate an exchange of faculty and students between France and India to make the people of both countries globally competitive.

Founded in 1794, Ecole Polytechnique, a state supported institution of Higher Education and Research, is the most prestigious Graduate Institute of Science and Technology in France. It plays a leading role as a part of Paris Tech which is a consortium of 11 most prestigious institutes of Engineering, Education & Research in France. Both now wish to develop similar cooperation with the foremost academic institutions in Science and Technology in India.

The objective of the current visit is to initiate first contacts with leading Indian Institutions to develop a mutual knowledge of respective institutions, better understand their mutual interests and explore potential areas of cooperation.

The cooperation will initially focus on the fields like Mathematics & Applied Mathematics, Physics & Engineering Physics, Computer Science & Electrical Engineering, Mechanics & Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Economics.

Xavier Michel, President of Ecole Polytechnique feels India is a great country which is rapidly moving forward in innovation, nuclear energy and aerospace. Also Indian scientists have reached a global level which means Indian students are very bright and talented.

He says “In our institute we have a personal way of working with students because we are a small institute. We have a system to give international students means to be welcome and accept French culture.”

Though the institute is broadly considering cooperation with premier institutes and universities of Science and Technology in India itself, the question of having its own set-up in India is a thought far too early for it. Offering courses of all levels ranging from graduate to masters and P.H.D, this institute aims at bringing France to India and taking India to France.
