NTPC to Become a Coal Producing Major

NTPC Limited plans to produce around 50 MT of coal by the year 2017 to meet
20-25% of its total coal requirement from its own mines this was stated by Shri
T. Sankaralingam, CMD, while inaugurating workshop on coal mining at New Delhi
.He informed that Ministry of coal , has recently approved the mining plan of
production capacity of 15 MTPA of coal for Pakri Barwadih , which is the largest
ever capacity of any Mining Plan approved by Govt. of India till date for first
phase of mining.
S. Gulati IAS, Jt. Secretary and F&A, Ministry of coal and P.R. Mondal ,
Advisor (Projects), Ministry of coal participated in the interactive session
during the Workshop . Other prominent speakers for the Technical Session were
N.N. Gautam, Advisor to UNDP; B.B. Dhar, Ex- Director (CMRI); R. L. Arora, Ex-
DG (DGMS); and P. V. Sridharan of TERI. Padma Bhushan G. L.Tandon former
Chairman , Coal India and Advisor NTPC also addressed the participants.
NTPC has been allotted eight Coal Mining Blocks namely Pakri Barwadih,
Kerandari, Chattibariatu, Chattrisal, Dulanga, Talaipalli, Brahmini and Chichro
Patsimal including two blocks to be operated by 50:50 JV with CIL.
The environment clearance for the first phase has been obtained, EMP report
presented to SPCB and land acquisition formalities are in progress, for Pakri
Barwadih, the first block allotted to NTPC
