Business houses do something which goes beyond business

Petroleum major ONGC has taken a unique initiative to preserve the history of Indian Petroleum industry. During its Golden Jubilee year, which ended on 14th August 2006, it undertook a monumental project to document the events defining the evolution of the Indian Petroleum industry – through the publication of two books, one on the Upstream Petroleum Industry and the second on the Downstream one.

The veterans behind the monumental Golden Jubilee publications of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) – 'Upstream India' and 'Downstream India' were felicitated at a ceremony held recently in New Delhi.

At a function organized by ONGC on 9th October 2006 at New Delhi the researchers and authors of the publication appreciated the history of petroleum industry, saying it will serve to enlighten the beginners in the industry who will further bequeath their value system. "This would enable preserving the value system, which is required to reach the pinnacles of achievement".

The editorial approach of these Books has been to prepare a definitive and balanced history. This history project of ONGC is one of the rare examples where business houses do something which goes beyond business. ONGC is also the only organization which has got coins minted in its name in its Golden Jubilee Year.
