National Innovation Grid gets a Kick Start

New Delhi October 09, 2006

The Confederation of Indian Industry; (CII) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (CfEL), Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, under the CII National Manufacturing Innovation Mission, in London.

CII's alliance with East of England International, is focused at developing a model for linking small entrepreneurs & individual innovators with linking academia, R&D institutions, businesses as well as the and government to facilitate innovation in the SME sector in India.

To kick start the Indian Industry into a 'drive' mode for Innovation, CII has taken this initiative. The thrust is on driving innovation for inclusive & sustainable growth and relating it to the consumer's expectation.

The National Innovation Grid for which an endowment of Pound Sterling 1, 00,000 has been made will provide innovators with continuous access to outside domain knowledge and the infrastructure for physical creation. It will also provide the innovation teams and entrepreneurs the requisite multiple domain expertise for successful commercialization Significant features of the proposed National Innovation Grid include Manufacturing Advisory Services, a Virtual Network and an Innovation Services Link.

The Virtual Network is the virtual aspect of the Innovation Grid - a website with three major sections - Knowledge, Competency & Expertise.

A critical element of the Grid will be the Innovation Services Link, aimed at kicking off innovation services such as making available services for rapid prototyping, fabrications, machining centers, tool rooms, testing centers etc.
