India Joint Workshop on Energy Efficiency in Building and Building Codes

A two day workshop on “Energy Efficiency in Buildings and Building Codes” was
jointly organized on 4th and 5th October at Hotel Le Meriden, New Delhi by
Ministry of Power, Ministry of Power, Government of India and International
Energy Agency and co-organised by Bureau of Energy Efficiency. The Workshop was
attended by representatives from organizations like Central/State Government
departments, builders, Architects, municipalities, distribution utilities,
energy service companies and other stakeholders.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman,
Planning Commission.
R V. Shahi, Secretary (Power) Government of India delivered Key Note address.
IEA delegation was led by Ambassador William C Ramsay, Deputy Executive
Director.
Issues like energy efficiency in buildings and Building Codes in OECD and
non-OECD countries; initiatives taken by various States; current status of
energy efficiency in buildings and building codes in India, barriers to
implementation and need of institutional arrangement for mitigating the barriers
for implementation, financing models and options and stakeholder perspective for
energy efficiency in buildings and building codes in India were discussed.
The workshop provided participants with a comprehensive overview of key
issues and perspectives on energy efficiency in buildings and Energy
Conservation Building Codes in IEA countries and enriched the knowledge of
stakeholders regarding the cost-benefits and mechanics of creating and
implementing Energy Conservation Building Codes in India.
The workshop was concluded with valedictory panel discussion chaired by U N
Panjiar Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India and
co-chaired by Ambassador William C Ramsay and Dr Ajay Mathur, DG, BEE.
