NTPC posts 15.09% growth in profit in half year

National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd. [NTPC], India’s largest power generating Company, announced 12.89% higher net sales for the second quarter of the current year ending September, 2005 at Rs. 59,259 Million compared to previous year’s same period net sales figure of Rs. 52,491 Million.
The profit after tax for the half year ended 30th September 2005 was Rs. 24,722 Million as compared to Rs. 21,481 Million in the previous year thus registering an increase of 15.09%.
The Corporation’s net profit figure for the quarter ended September, 2005 has risen to Rs. 11,635 Million as compared to Rs. 10,940 Million in the corresponding period of previous year registering an increase of 6.35%
During the quarter ended on September, 2005 the electricity sold from NTPC stations was 36,152 MUs as compared to 34,806 MUs in the correspondence period in previous year thus registering an increase of 3.87%.
The generation during the quarter could have been higher, had NTPC stations not backed due to higher availability from hydro stations.
