Mumbai, Oct 08, 2005

Green Gas Limited (GGL), a Joint Venture of GAIL (India) Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited has been incorporated today for implementation of City Gas Projects for supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to Domestic, Commercial and Industrial Consumers and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to automobile consumers in the cities of Agra and Lucknow. Apart from GAIL and IOCL, Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation shall be inducted in GGL.

GAIL has already incorporated Central U. P. Gas Limited (CUGL), a JV with BPCL for implementation of City Gas Project in Kanpur on 25.02.2005 for supply of CNG and PNG, which is currently setting up the infrastructure in Kanpur. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), a JV with GAIL, BPCL and Govt. of Delhi is already supplying CNG in Noida, U.P. With this, availability of CNG is going to increase in the state of Uttar Pradesh in near future.

With the incorporation of the GGL, the supply of PNG and CNG shall be expedited in the cities of Agra and Lucknow. The use of CNG and city gas in cities of Agra and Lucknow for automotive and domestic use will be a reality now and in turn will reduce environmental pollution by reducing the pollutants level by virtue of using clean green fuel.

GGL is planning to set up three CNG stations Lucknow and two CNG stations in Agra initially and plans to supply PNG to about 1000 Domestic consumers in first year.

Further, GAIL has plans to introduce CNG through CUGL and GGL in the cities of Uttar Pradesh.

Moreover, GAIL is planning to form state wise JVCs for Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerala and Karnataka along with Oil Marketing Companies.
