BHEL bags Rs. 190 Crore order for Gas Turbine Generator sets from Reliance

Outbidding leading multinational equipment suppliers, engineering major Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won a prestigious contract for three Gas Turbine Generator sets from Reliance Industries Limited (RIL).

As per the order, valued at over Rs.190 Crore, BHEL will supply two Frame-6 Gas Turbine Generator sets for RIL’s Hazira petrochemical project and one Frame-6 Gas Turbine Generator set for its Jamnagar refinery, both in Gujarat.

With a cumulative rating of around 109 MW, the Gas Turbines are to be supplied in a tight schedule of 9, 11 and 13 months and will augment the captive power generating capacities of the respective projects.

The order assumes special significance as RIL has once again opted to source equipment from BHEL, in view of its techno-economical superiority - a testimony to the customer's confidence in BHEL's capabilities. BHEL has earlier supplied 14 Frame-6 Gas Turbine Generators to RIL’s Hazira, Patalganga, Naroda, Goa and Jamnagar projects, in addition to several Heat Recovery Steam Generators, Motors and Heat Exchangers.

BHEL's scope of work envisages design, engineering manufacture, testing and supply of three Frame-6 Gas Turbine Generator sets alongwith associated auxiliaries. The Gas Turbines and Generators will be manufactured and supplied by the company's Hyderabad plant while the state-of-the-art Control System will be supplied by BHEL's Electronics Division, Bangalore.

Over the years, BHEL has proved its capabilities as a leading supplier of Gas Turbines, Steam Turbine Generators and Boilers for captive power plants as well as gas-based co-generation plants and combined cycle power projects, for various process industries like refineries, chemicals, fertilizers, petrochemicals, cement, paper, sugar, metallurgy, etc., besides utilities in the domestic and overseas market. As on date, the company has executed contracts for over 500 Steam Turbine/ Gas Turbine-based power plants in India and abroad.
