SAIL celebrates World Quality Day
New Delhi November 09, 2006
Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) celebrated World Quality Day at its
Corporate Office here as well as its various plants and units located in
different parts of the country today. G. Ojha, Director (Personnel), SAIL
hoisted the Quality Flag at Ispat Bhavan, New Delhi and read the company’s new
Quality Policy to kick-off month-long activities on Quality-related themes in
the entire organisation.
It deserves to be mentioned here that the SAIL plants and units have been
certified to ISO:9001 Quality Management Systems. SAIL’s Corporate Vigilance has
been the first PSU vigilance department under the Ministry of Steel to achieve
ISO:9001 certification.
Addressing a huge gathering on the occasion, Mr Ojha highlighted the
achievements of Bhilai Steel Plant, which has also obtained certification for
ISO:14001 Environment Management System, OHSAS 18000, SA 8000, etc., and has
been able to improve its work practices on a continual basis. He urged the other
steel plants and units of SAIL to adopt Bhilai’s attitude towards Quality as an
internal benchmark and benefit similarly. Mr Ojha also stressed the vital need
to maintain discipline in achieving set goals and targets – a lesson that is
inherent in the Quality movement being followed worldwide.
Several senior company officials, including Venugopal K. Nair, Chief
Vigilance Officer, V.K. Gulhati, Executive Director (Corporate Planning), and
Raman Kumar, Executive Director (Personnel & Administration), also put forth
their views on the occasion.
