Indo-China Trade will touch $40 billion by 2010

Chinese President Hu Jintao's four day visit and India's warm reception of the luminary have opened doors for new Economic and Strategic Joint Commission. The Joint Commission which stresses on a 10 pronged strategy to intensify engagement has been formulated along with the signing of 13 pivotal documents. The Volume of Trade which is expected to rise to a stupendous level of $ 40 billion by 2010 has been outlined as catalyst to encourage two-way investment flow and boost the strategic objective of both India and China.

 

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after a fifteen minute one-to-one dialouge with the President said there is enough space for India and China to develop together.

 

Regular Summit meetings and a Joint Study will examine the future course of action. He also said that strengthening the friendship will be the underlying theme and the agreements signed would be a tool to boost trans-border connectivity.

 

Both India and China by the way of these agreements are looking forward to increase partnership and cooperation in the fields of agriculture, biotechnology, nuclear cooperation and carve out a bigger role for themselves in the world affairs.

 

Chinese President Hu Jintao on the occasion said he was here to chart out future course to strengthen relations, increase mutual trust and encourage two way investment flow.Though being termed as his Landmark visit in India, the prestigious visit is being referred to a symbolic one among the political circles as it indicates towards doubling the current trade levels merely within a period of 4 years, making two Asain Giants, Joint Partners.

 

Though the picture on Border issue remains distorted with deadlines being spelled out, the immediate settling of this contentious issue seems unlikely.

 

Meeting next year at the Indo-China:Year of Tourism, 2007 both aim to promote tourism by exhibiting their landscapes and heritage sites as well as showcasing differnent ethnicities and cultures prevelant in the varied realms of both the nations.
