Indo-US Nuclear Bill Passed
New Delhi, November 16, 2006
U.S.-India Civil Nuclear Cooperation agreement passed with a thumping
majority in the US Senate.
Now the next step of reconciliation between the Bills passed by the US Senate
and the US House of Representatives is important and needs to be expedited. The
very fact that the Bill was passed in the lame duck session of the Senate speaks
of the bi-partisan support and the importance placed on the bilateral ties.
A series of doubts and cynicism after the recent Mid-Term polls in US had
arrested the possibilty of the Bill passing through. But with the confidence of
White House and a determined persuasion of Indo-US Nuclear lobby the sailed
through unquestionably.
This Bill is a forward step reflecting a whole new level of trust and there
is high expectation now that the final bill will take into account India's
aspirations that will bring about a strong partnership between the US and India.
