NTPC to venture into LED Lamp manufacturing

New Delhi November 13, 2006

NTPC Limited signed an MOU for a collaborative tie-up with Society for Integrated Circuit Technology and Applied Research (SITAR) for identifying the technology provider for manufacturing of White Light Emitting Diode (WLEDs) and LED Lamps.

An MoU to this effect was signed today in New Delhi. M.S. Vijay Raghavan, CEO, SITAR and R.S. Sharma, Director (Comml.) signed the MOU on behalf of their respective organizations in the presence of

T. Sankaralingam, CMD, NTPC. Chandan Roy, Director (Opns.) and R. C. Shrivastav, Director (HR) NTPC were also present on the occasion.

Ministry of Power has proposed NTPC to consider manufacturing of energy efficient LED lamps in view of the emerging demand to be generated with the rapid electrification of the villages under Rajiv Gandhi Vidyutikaran Yojna (RGGVY).

SITAR, a Govt. of India Society in the field of semi conductor fabrication, shall assist in selection of best technology for a viable manufacturing of the WLEDs.
