Indo-French Bilateral Trade marks a growth
of 24% every year
New Delhi, November 13, 2006
With the onset of the New Year, France and India will embark on a new
trajectory of a bilateral relationship. An Indo-French Business Meet is
being organized from December 4-8, 2006 in New Delhi to enable French SME's and
their Indian counterparts to club their business and entrepreneurial competence.
India's medium-sized companies and large business groups will have the
unprecedented opportunity to network with multi-sector French SME's on the
occasion of this meet which has already generated a great deal of interest
amongst the French and Indian circles. There are approximately 150 French SME's
lined up to meet 900 Indian companies registered for the event, bringing both
nations closer to their common objective of increasing bilateral trade.
France is world's 5th largest economy with world leaders and suppliers of
products and technologies across all sectors. India on the other hand is vying
for similar expertise and excellence in technology and advancement to make its
road to development smooth and fast. This common perspective and goal on both
sides has long triggered a sense to share same dais where both can collate their
capital to bring economy and bolster bilateral trade.
Under the aegis of the French Ministry of Foreign trade and the Indian
Ministry of Commerce and Industry, this dream can be realized by initiating new
partnerships between players from India and France in areas of infrastructure,
information technology, pharmaceuticals, environment, new technologies,
agribusiness, automotives and aeronautics. This unique match-making exercise
based on one to one meetings, will focus on forging new partnerships, technology
transfers and providing new distribution contracts.
French Ambassador H.E Mr. Dominique Girard welcoming the event said
"This meet is special for strategic affairs, nuclear matters and for pioneering
the French approach to India which is now prevailing everywhere. Considering the
overwhelming role of India in the international arena, we have to work hard to
develop this economic relationship."
Indo-French bilateral trade which is growing at a whopping 24% every year
still needs to develop the SME part of the process. Almost all French companies
about 300 of them, employing 40,000 people are currently operative in India.
According to a joint statement renewed last February the two-way trade figure
can be doubled during the next five years further enhancing the business
opportunities.
Therefore this and other such meets can prove not only beneficial and
lucrative but be termed historical if exploited judiciously to meet parallel
interests of both sides making world a smaller and familiar place.
