BHEL 'Excel Awards' for Meritorious Performance announced

Aimed at promoting and nurturing the culture of excellence in the organisation, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has announced the winners of its 'Excel Awards' for the year 2003-04. The annual awards are presented to BHEL employees for their meritorious achievements in various fields.
The 'Excel' award scheme was conceptualised to motivate BHEL's human resource - the most valuable asset to give competitive advantage in the fiercely competitive and rapidly changing business environment. Introduced in the year 2000-01, the objective of the 'Excel' award scheme is to recognise, reward and place on record any direct or indirect outstanding contribution by an employee or a group of employees towards growth and profitability of the company.
The fourth such awards will be ceremoniously presented here on November 27 by Mr. A.K. Puri, Chairman and Managing Director, BHEL, to fifty six employees, in the presence of BHEL Directors, distinguished guests, senior officials and other employees of the company. With this, a total of 183 employees and two family members of employees would have been awarded so far.
The awards are being conferred in various categories viz. All Round Excellence, Quality, Speed of Response, Productivity, Best Technical Paper, Research & Development, Creativity & Innovation and Individual Excellence. In addition, six awards will be presented this year in a new category for outstanding display of Dedication and Commitment, besides the CMD's award for the leading Unit/Division in activities related to Intellectual Property Rights.
Employees, selected for receiving the fourth 'Excel Awards' belong to Units/Divisions of BHEL at Ranipet, Trichy, Bangalore, Bhopal, Haridwar, Corporate R&D, Power Sector - Northern, Western and Southern Regions, Technical Services and the Corporate Office, New Delhi.
The scheme stipulates awards in nine categories, carrying a cash award of upto Rs.50,000 for individuals and Rs.Five Lakh for groups, in addition to a medallion, a certificate and a citation. The awards are decided by the date of incorporation of the company i.e. November 13, every year.
BHEL, a pioneer in Human Resource Development in India, is implementing a multi-pronged strategy to revamp its HRM policies. As part of this blueprint, major HRM policy initiatives undertaken include; a new interactive Performance Management system (called 'Moving Ahead through Performance'), Human Resource Optimisation & revisiting Training & Development needs.
