New Delhi, November 22, 2004
Power equipment major, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has bagged two separate orders for power plant equipment from cement and steel industries, aimed at augmenting their captive power generation. With this, BHEL has once again demonstrated its position as a leading supplier of power equipment to industry.
These orders, cumulatively valued at Rs.26 Crore, are for industrial Steam Turbine-Generator (STG) sets of different ratings, to be supplied and installed in captive power plants located in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
The first order, bagged against stiff competition from Japanese and French suppliers, has been placed on BHEL by Maihar Cement Ltd. (MCL), a unit of Century Textiles and Industries Ltd. The order envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of a 15.7 MW STG set with associated auxiliaries for the captive power plant at their cement plant in Madhya Pradesh.
BHEL is already executing an order for a 10 MW STG set for MCL’s sister concern, Manikgarh Cement Ltd. The present order assumes special significance as the customer has once again opted to source equipment from BHEL, in view of its techno-economical superiority - a testimony to the customer's confidence in BHEL's capabilities.
The other order has also been won by the company in the face of stiff competition from French and Czech multinational suppliers. The order has been placed on the company by Monnet Ispat Ltd. (MIL) and involves design, engineering, manufacture, supply and supervision of erection and commissioning of a 15 MW STG set alongwith associated auxiliaries for their captive power plant at Raipur in Chhattisgarh.
The equipment for both the orders will be manufactured and supplied by the company's Hyderabad plant. Over the years, BHEL has emerged as the market leader in the supply of steam turbine generators and boilers for captive power plants as well as gas-based co-generation and combined cycle power projects for various industries, with a market share of nearly 40%. The company offers a range of captive power plants from 5 MW to 130 MW capacities. So far, BHEL has equipped more than 200 captive power plants for process industries like refineries, petrochemicals, steel, cement, fertilizer etc.
