Railway Revenue Earnings
up by 11.06 Per Cent During
Financial Year 2008-09

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on
originating basis during April 2009 were Rs. 6635.02 crore
compared to Rs. 6414.87 crore during the same period last
year, registering an increase of 3.43 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 4382.81 crore
during April 2008 to Rs. 4525.27 crore during April 2009,
showing an increase of 3.25 per cent.
The total passenger revenue earnings during the April 09 were
Rs. 1853.06 crore compared to Rs. 1794.02 crore during the
same period last year, registering an increase of 3.29 per
cent.
The revenue earnings from other coaching and sundry amounted
to Rs. 256.69 crore during April 2009 compared to Rs. 238.04
crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of
7.83 per cent.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during April
2009 were 589.99 million compared to 572.88 million during the
same period last year, showing an increase of 2.99 per cent.
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of
passengers booked during April 2009 were 301.26 million and
288.73 million compared to 300.59 million and 272.29 million
during the same period last year, an increase of 0.22 per cent
and 6.04 per cent respectively.
The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on
originating basis during the financial year 2008-09 were Rs.
80338.10 crore compared to Rs. 72338.16 crore during fiscal
2007-08, registering an increase of 11.06 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 48291.15 crore
during 1st April 2008 - 31st March, 2009 to Rs. 54142.52 crore
during 1st April 2007 - 31st March 2008, registering an
increase of 12.12 per cent.
The total passenger revenue earnings during the financial year
2008-09 were Rs. 22071.34 crore compared to Rs. 19837.07 crore
during fiscal 2007-08, registering an increase of 11.26 per
cent.
The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs.
1994.43 crore during April 2008-March 2009 compared to Rs.
1864.52 crore during the financial year 2007-08, registering
an increase of 6.97 per cent.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during April
2008-March 2009 was 7097.60 million compared to 6678.85
million during the same period last year, showing an increase
of 6.27 per cent.
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of
passengers booked during April 2008-March 2009 was 3789.03
million and 3308.57 million compared to 3688.22 million and
2990.63 million during the same period last year, an increase
of 2.73 per cent and 10.63 per cent respectively.
