Railway earnings up by 16.73%

Continuing its growth trend, Railways earned Rs 6420.59
crore during April this year compared to Rs 5500.40 crores
during the same period last year, registering an increase of
16.73 percent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 3680.64
crores in April 2007 to Rs 4391.55 crores in April 2008,
increasing by 19.31 percent.
The earnings from passengers during April were Rs 1793.98
crores compared to Rs 1616.69 crores during the same period
last year, registering an increase of 10.97 percent, an
official release said.
The total number of passengers booked during April 2008
were 572.64 million compared to 538.42 million during the same
period last year, showing an increase of 6.36 percent.
