Study commissioned on status of Rapid Rail Transit System

 

New Delhi, 03 March, 2011


In respect of Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) to connect neighbouring towns with Delhi, NCR Planning Board has commissioned a study which envisages preparation of detailed project report (DRP) after detailed feasibility study.

The study is in respect of three corridors -- Delhi-Meerut, Delhi-Rewari-Alwar and Delhi-Sonepat-Panipat. The speed of the trains to be run on these corridors is being studied is in the range of about 160 kmph.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.

As the feasibility study has not yet been completed, the implementation timeline cannot be commented upon.

Eight more corridors have been planned for connecting commercial, tourist and pilgrimage hubs.

He informed that 6 high-speed rail sorridors have already been identified for pre-feasibility studies.

 

These are :

Delhi-Chandigarh-Amritsar
Pune-Mumbai-Ahmedabad
Hyderabad-Dornakal-Vijayawaa-Chennai
Howrah-Haldia
Chennai-Bangalore-Coimbatore-Ernakulam
Delhi-Agra-Lucknow-Varanasi-Patna
