New Delhi, July 5:
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has bagged an order for setting up a 120 MW Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Jammu & Kashmir.
Valued at Rs.142 Crore, the prestigious contract for Sewa HEP Stage-II (3x40 MW), has been placed on BHEL by NHPC. For making power available from the project in the Tenth Plan itself, BHEL has joined hands with NHPC to commission Sewa HEP in a very tight schedule of just 38 months. Located at the J&K-Himachal Pradesh border, the power house will generate electricity utilising a 560 metre water-head of the river Sewa.
BHEL has a long association with NHPC, having supplied 18 hydro generating sets of 1155 MW in India and 4 sets of 60 MW in Bhutan. Major among these include Salal HEP (6x115 MW) in J&K, Baira Suil HEP (3x60 MW) in HP, Loktak HEP (3x35 MW) in Manipur and Tanakpur HEP (3X40 MW) in UP.
For NHPC, BHEL is also executing its first ever contract for a mega hydro power project. The 800 MW Parbati HEP will be equipped with the country's largest capacity (4x200 MW) state-of-the-art Pelton hydro turbines and on completion would be the second largest hydro power station in India, equipped with such turbines.
BHEL has so far manufactured and supplied 385 hydro generating sets totalling to 16,275 MW to various utilities in India and abroad.
