Bharat
Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won a major contract for setting up five
Stand-Alone Solar Power Plants in the Islands of Sunderbans, Valued at
Rs.15 Crore, the contract has been awarded to BHEL by the West Bengal Renewable
Energy Development Agency (WBREDA), following the successful commissioning of
the state's first Stand-Alone Solar Power Plant at BHEL will
also operate and maintain the plants for 10 years on turnkey basis. All the five
power plants are expected to be commissioned within the next 12 months. Each Power
Plant will cater to the power requirements of the villages. Besides
providing power to houses, street lights, schools etc., drinking water pumping
system is included as an inbuilt system of the project. With a view to ensure
reliable, utility-quality power supply, each power plant will be equipped with
high efficiency battery banks, state-of-the-art Inverter and electronic control
systems. The concept of pre-paid Metering to regularise power consumption and
revenue collection is being introduced which is superior to systems available in
urban areas, utilising conventional power plants. Solar
Power Plants have come as a boon to the people in remote and backward areas
which are deprived of conventional electricity. Besides ensuring
environment-friendly power for 5 hours after dusk, Solar Power Plants will have
a positive impact on the quality of life in these areas. People, who lead a
monotonous life of retiring to bed at dusk, can now lead an active life after
dark also by choosing newer avenues for their livelihood, engaging in community
meetings and encouraging children to study, besides catching up with the fast
changing world through the electronic media. A pioneer in the field of SPV
Technology with an experience spanning nearly two decades, BHEL has emerged as a
leading player in the field of large size Solar Power Plants and has
commissioned Grid-Interactive, Hybrid as well as Stand-Alone Solar Power Plants
