India - Iran Agree to Strengthen Further Bilateral Coop.

 

 

New Delhi, January 21, 2008

 

Deputy of the cultural Heritage and tourism, Iran Hossein Jafari called on tourism and Cultural Minister, Ambika Soni. During an hour long meeting here both the Leaders discussed matters related to Tourism and Culture Sectors. Both the Leaders recalled centuries old historical and cultural ties between India and Iran and agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation further in all sectors. Ambika Soni welcoming the Iranian leader said that Iran is one country where we want to concentrate in Incredible India brand campaign.

 

She said India is looking on closer connectivity between Indian and Iranian cities to increase people to people contact. She said that despite close proximity and historical ties both countries are needed to increase tourists substantially to further strengthen bilateral relations. She said there is a need to exchange more information on tourism sector between the two countries and familarization trips of travel writers and journalists can contribute in this direction. Soni offered to train people from Iran in the hospitality sector and food crafts institutes. She said exchange of music, dance, crafts, exhibition of artefacts in each other’s country will strengthen the relationship between the two countries further. Soni thanked Iran for its support to India during UNWTO session at Colombia and said Indian delegation supported Iran to become Vice President of the UNWTO executive council.

The visiting Iranian leader said President of Iran is eager to increase cooperation between the two countries and activities in Culture and Tourism sectors will be accelerated to work out a model of cooperation. He said, in April, 2008 Iran will organize a cultural week in India to show case and seek attention of the people of India towards Rich Iranian culture. He recalled Iran’s participation in 17th Session of UNWTO at Colombia and said Iran whole heartedly supported India’s candidature for Chairmanship of UNWTO Executive Council. Iranian Leader invited Soni to visit his country at the earliest possible opportunity. Soni said it is my dream to go to Iran.

India Tourism Dubai looks after promotion and marketing of Indian tourism in Iran. It participated in the ‘Holiday Show Travel Exhibition’ held in Tehran, Iran from 13th to 15th of June, 2007. The exhibition was held after a gap of 17 years. India Tourism, Dubai set up an Indian pavilion which was decorated with traditional Indian designs.

India and Iran are both members of UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) and were elected to the Executive Council to represent South Asian region. The term of both countries in the Executive Council will expire in 2009.
