Special Trains to Meet Summer Rush and Festivals

New Delhi, 25 February, 2011

In the coming summer season, it is planned to operate 8000 trips and a total of 40,000 trips for the whole year to handle the passenger traffic during vacations and festivals.

Presenting the Railway Budget for 2011-12 in the Lok Sabha today, the Minister of Railways Mamata Banerjee said that in the current year, the Railways have already operated 130 pairs of additional trains which made 36,000 trips. The special trips help Railways to achieve a healthy growth in passenger earnings and satisfy the seasonal travel demands to a large extent, the Railway Minister said.

The Minister also said that preparations to cater to the expected massive demand by pilgrims during ‘Maha Kumbh Mela’ in 2013 are being made.
