Railway re-launches ID checking for 'tatkal' travellers from Feb 11

New Delhi, 10 February, 2011

In view of complaints of alleged irregularities in 'tatkal' scheme, the Railways Ministry will re-introduced the need for carrying identity proof in original during the journey from February 11.

''All passengers who will be travelling on 'tatkal' ticket, will be required to produce one of the following eight identity proofs in original during the journey -- voter photo identity card, passport, PAN, driving licence; photo identity card issued by Central or State government, student identity card with photograph issued by recognised by their school or college, nationalised bank passbook with photograph or credit cards issued by banks with laminated photograph,'' official release said.

However, no identity proof will be required to be produced at the reservation counter while getting the tatkal ticket booked, it said.

Passengers will be required to produce identity proofs in original for checking, failing which they will be treated as travelling without ticket and charged excess fare and penalty as per rules, it added.
