Queen of Bhutan on India visit

Her Majesty Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck, Queen of Bhutan is visiting India from 6th to 17th of February, 2005. As United Nations Population Fund
(UNFPA) Goodwill Ambassador, Her Majesty has been invited to share her experiences.
Her Majesty will also study India’s efforts to tackle challenges in the field of Reproductive Health and Population and Development. Her Majesty will visit the states of
Rajasthan, Maharasthra and Gujarat. Her Majesty is accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck and senior officials from the Ministry of Health, Royal Government of Bhutan.
During the visit, Her Majesty will meet Smt. Meera Kumar, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment and other senior Government officials to learn more about national policies and programmes in the areas of population, reproductive health, gender equity and equality and adolescents.
In 1999, Her Majesty accepted the role of the UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador in Bhutan. In this capacity, Her Majesty has traveled extensively throughout the country accelerating the advocacy campaigns of the Health Services. The key areas of Her Majesty’s support are family planning, adolescent reproductive health, emerging youth issues such as substance abuse and teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS, and women’s empowerment particularly for the marginalized sections of the society.
