MRPL gets first prize for energy performance

New Delhi December 14, 2006

 

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL), a subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC), has won the Jawaharlal Nehru Centenary Award for being the best in Energy Performance among Indian refineries for 2005-06.

 

The award was presented by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Mr. Dinsha J Patel to Chairman of ONGC Group of Companies Mr. R S Sharma at a function in New Delhi, organized by the Centre for High Technology under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, on 13th December 2006. MRPL Managing Director Mr. R Rajamani and Director (F) Mr. L K Gupta and senior Directors of ONGC also received the encomium on the occasion.

 

 

The Energy performance of refineries was decided based on the Minimum Specific Energy Consumption by the individual refineries. Scoring a hat trick, MRPL secured this most prestigious award for the third time in a row.

 

MRPL was also given the second best award for Furnace/Boiler Efficiency, under the Oil and Gas Conservation Awards 2006, in the same function.

 

MRPL has the unique distinction of being the first refinery to produce Euro III and Euro IV complaint transportation fuels. It is also credited for a record capacity utilization of 125% in FY-06. In the current fiscal also, the 9.69 million tonnes refinery is targeting annual production 12+ million tonnes. MRPL is implementing a Refinery Upgradation cum Expansion Project at an estimated cost of Rs. 7943 crore, to augment capacity to 15 million tonnes.
