Uzbek President declares
2007 as the Year of Social Protection
New Delhi, December 12, 2006
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov
submitted his initiative to declare 2007 as the Year of Social
Protection at a solemn meeting devoted to the Constitution Day
held on the eve of the holiday in Tashkent on December 7,
2006.
As reported earlier, the state budget for 2007, approved by
the Uzbek government, envisages that 54% of funds will be
directed on social programmes.
Support of socially vulnerably groups of the population has
always been one of unshakable rules in traditional upbringing
of the Uzbek people, therefore the next year should be
symbolic.
2006 was declared in Uzbekistan as the Year of Charity and
Medical Workers.
