Partnership critical to
make infrastructure world-class: pallam raju
New Delhi, December 10, 2006
Providing a fillip to the Facility Management industry, the
MoS, Defence, M M Pallam Raju urged the Industry to come
together “to make the country’s infrastructure world class”.
He was addressing delegates at the Inaugural Session of the
“2nd International Conference on Facility Management”
organized by the CII.
“A collective responsibility between the Government as the
facilitator, the private sector and the public sector will
play a key role in driving the growth of this new and emerging
sector” he added.
Making a special mention of the armed forces, Mr Raju said
that the Industry could take lessons from our armed forces on
the upkeep and maintenance of establishments.
Championing the cause of the physically challenged, Mr Raju
stressed on the need for “Facility Mangers to be empathetic to
the needs of the physically challenged” and added that
“special care should be given to their needs, while designing
establishments at the conceptualization stage“.
In her Keynote Address, Dr Nalini Kaul, Director Medical,
Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said that the facility management
market has been experiencing continual growth. Sharing her
insights and perspective on healthcare sector, she mentioned
how her organization recognized the benefits of Facility
Management as a way of reducing operating costs and improving
efficiency. She said, “Pace is critical in every field to
address mounting competitive pressures in an evolving market
landscape and ‘hassle free solutions’, is what Facility
Management is all about”.
Mr Nimish Malhotra, Vice President, Vipul Facility
Management Pvt Ltd, while giving the theme presentation
highlighted the need for recognizing the FM Industry as
Professional Discipline. “The real-estate industry in India is
estimated to be $90 million by 2010. If we were to look at
30-35% budget of any organization towards asset and utilities,
there are huge opportunities for the Facility Management
Industry in the coming years”, he said.
In his opening remarks, Mr V J Prakash, Chairman,
Manufacturing Competitiveness Sub-Committee, CII Northern
Region highlighted the need for improving the Infrastructure
in the country. “For India to make a mark globally in the
highly competitive scenario, maintenance and upkeep of
establishments would play a vital role to achieve business
success,” he added.
Mr Jayant Davar, Vice Chairman, Manufacturing
Competitiveness Sub-Committee, in his concluding remarks said
that academicians become a critical enabler in the evolution
of any facility and urged the Industry to take up the
challenges for the future.
The Conference was attended by over 250 participants from
all over India.
