Sarkaritel.com News and Features-Corporate NewsA New Logo, A Renewed ONGC
New Delhi, August 14, 2004
ONGC will be entering the Golden Jubilee year on August 14, 2005. In these 50 years, it has transformed from a Directorate to a Commission to a Corporation. Significant changes in the functioning and scope of activities of the organisation have taken place.
As the Most Valuable Corporate of the Country, the Logo has been redesigned so as to reflect the changes while keeping the linkages with traditions and history intact. The New Logo represents ONGC as a true energy company.
The colours of the Sun and Earth will reflect from Vasudhara the main symbol of the ONGC Logo and depict the fifty year transformation of the company from a directorate to a total energy company. The changeover to a new logo symbolizes the glowing future of the company where a new work culture, competitive spirit and a sense of modernity prevails in every area.
The new logo projects the new corporate image of ONGC as a multinational company and a leader in the oil and gas business.
The new logo derived after considerable research of logos of global oil companies takes inspiration from Vasudhara -The main symbol derived from the first well on Ankleshwar field.
The main Vasudhara symbol (the name of the first well on Ankleshwar field, given by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on May 14, 1960), depicts the image of a flowing well, (Vasudhara -flow of wealth), which is vibrant, full of life and active all the time. In the existing logo, the "Vasudhara" symbol was blocked with a semi-circle on the top, thus restricting the flow. This restriction has been removed so that the flow lines are open representing flow of wealth and bounty. Also the aim is to transform the new symbol portrayed in reverse in earthen red colour as an identity of the company without the aid of any words or letter.
Not only the colours the font too has also undergone a changeWlth the unshackling of the Vasudhara and the words "ONGC" in Hindi and English. The letters were earlier all enclosed in a rectangular box and printed in gold. This had reduced the clarity of the letters and it was almost impossible to read the company name in Hindi when a small size logo is used.
The rectangular block has been removed and the font of Hindi and English letters has been changed so that there is clarity in reading the name of the company both in Hindi and English. This will also be printed in the same earthen red colour. The rectangular shape of the logo has also been transformed to a square.
The ONGC byline "Making Tomorrow Brighter" was earlier positioned on the right in a blue gradient. This has been converted to a yellow backdrop against which the ONGC line stands out in red gradient. This entire unit also assumes a square shape, equal to the size of the ONGC logo.
The new logo also aims to achieve a synergy amongst all group companies of ONGC ( MRPL and OVL ) so that there is a common identity of all the companies.
