BHEL bags Rs. 20 mn from Tyco Electronics, UK

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has bagged contract for the supply of 14,280 disc insulators of upto 300 kN rating, from Tyco Electronics ,UK, for use on the transmission lines of National Grid Transco (NGT) UK. The total value of the contract is Rs. 20 mn.

Prior to this, BHEL has supplied 13,352 disc insulators of upto 300 kN rating for Scottish Power’s 275 kV Northern Ireland-Scotland InterConnector transmission line. Bagged against intense competition from established insulator companies in UKandEurope , this order was also placed on BHEL by Tyco Electronics.

BHEL has become the first Indian company, capable of offering indigenously developed Porcelain Disc Insulators of upto 300 kN rating, for application in High Voltage Transmission systems. With this, Indiahas joined a select band of advanced countries possessing this state-of-the-art technology and a new line of business has opened up for BHEL.

BHEL has established leadership in the high-tech area of Porcelain technology for both HVDC as well as Ultra High Voltage Alternating Current (UHVAC) applications. Notably, the company has also developed and Tested 400 kN disc insulators for future market requirement.

In overseas market, the company has exported ceramic insulators to many countries like Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Zambia, Oman, Iraq, Nigeria, Australiaand Abu Dhabi, besides the United Kingdom.
