Delhi Metro's third phase
approved
New Delhi,
12 April, 2011
The Delhi government gave its nod to
five Delhi Metro projects, including opening two new lines and
extending three others.
The new lines will link Mukundpur with Yamuna Vihar and
Janakpuri West with Noida Botanical Garden.
Three existing routes will be extended: the Badarpur-Central
Secretariat line up to Kashmere Gate, the HUDA City Centre-Jahangirpuri
up to Badli and the Dwarka-Noida line up to Najafgarh.
"The government is keen to extend the coverage of Delhi Metro
as its services are reliable, fast, pollution free and hassle
free," Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit told the media.
She said the under-construction Kirti Nagar-Ashok Park Metro
section was likely to be completed in two months.
Admitting that the Metro coverage was still not sufficient,
Dikshit hoped that the new lines will improve the coverage.
According to Dikshit, 67 stations will come up under the
108-km third phase. Of this, 41 km will be underground and 67
km will be elevated. The anticipated cost is over Rs.30,000
crore.
