PNB launches mobile ATM vans on its Foundation Day

On the occasion of 114th Foundation Day, Punjab
National Bank launched four mobile ATM vans in Delhi. Mrs.
Sheila Dixit, Chief Minister of NCT Delhi, flagged off the
vans. This is a unique initiative taken by any Public
Sector Bank in Delhi. On this occasion, Hans Raj Hans, a
renowned Sufi Singer performed a live show in the presence
of a large number of customers of the Bank.
Floral tributes were given to the Founder
Father of the Bank, Lala Lajpat Rai on the occasion. Floral
tributes were also paid to Dr. B.R.Ambedker on his 117th birth
anniversary. |

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Sheila Dixit, Chief
Minister, NCT, Delhi said that Punjab National Bank has taken
this innovative step by introducing mobile ATM vans. This
facility will help the residents of Delhi specially the women
who can now avail banking facility at their doorstep.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. K.C. Chakrabarty, CMD, PNB said
that with the launch of these Mobile ATM vans, more people
would come under the banking fold, as areas without PNB
branches will also be covered. These mobile ATMs would serve
those who cannot come to a branch. Through these vans we would
cover various parts of Delhi as One van would go to North
Delhi, one to South, one to West and one to East Delhi on a
daily basis.
He further added that PNB has declared 2008-09 as the year of
financial inclusion. PNB believes that the poor are bankable
and greater focus is on implementing the Financial Inclusion
Plan throughout the country in general and Indo Gangetic Plain
in particular, where Bank has major presence. Bank's vision is
focused on widespread financial inclusion - deploying
technologies, infrastructure and strategies to take banking to
the unreached. Bank has already launched five pilot projects
related to financial inclusion in different states of the
country. Two more financial inclusion projects will be
launched shortly in Kullu (HP) and Dehradun (Uttaranchal). The
bank has already achieved 100% financial inclusion in 10,886
villages and the target is 30,000 villages, 15 million
households and 75 million people by 2010.
Meeting its commitments to bring financial inclusion in urban
areas, the bank has launched mobile ATM vans in Delhi and also
proposes to open a branch, only for self-help groups in
Mukundpur, Delhi.
Established in 1895 in Lahore, PNB has the distinction of
being the first Indian Bank to have been started with Indian
Capital. The Bank was founded by the great freedom fighter
Lala Lajpat Rai. PNB has been a part of Indian history and
from its humble beginning with initial capital of Rs.20,000/-,
the bank has grown to become one of the largest banks in the
country. It has over 4500 offices with National &
International presence providing services to 3.7 crore
customers.
